ChattanoogaWorks

The Who, What & Why

ChattanoogaWorks started as the brainchild of CreateHere, a Chattanooga-based non-profit working for creative economic and cultural development. They unleashed a SWAT team of locals and newbies to capture a nuanced portrait of our town through photography, and it has become a labor of love.

In planning this website, we got help from a few places. We were inspired by the annual Everyman Photo Contest and its ability to showcase amateur and professional photography, side by side, with equal weight and respect. Across the pond, we looked to the 2008 Cultures on My Street project, which asked citizens of the European Union to celebrate their local diversity.

Next American City brought our focus back to the states with its 24HRS Guides, photographic celebrations of America’s metropolises. HIWI, or Houston: It’s Worth It, reminded us that it takes a sense of humor to be a member of the city-zenry, but as the line goes, it’s absolutely worth it.
